Overview

1. Stable, high-speed internet connection – broadband wired or wireless (3G or 4G/LTE)

2. Speakers and microphone* – built-in, USB plug-in, or wireless Bluetooth

3. Webcam – built-in or USB plug-in (for Live Coaching sessions)

  • Linux: Ubuntu 12.04, Mint 17.1, Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6.4, Oracle Linux 6.4, CentOS 6.4, Fedora 21, OpenSUSE 13.2, ArchLinux (64-bit only)

5. Supported devices:

  • iPhone/iPad: 5S or later 
  • Android phone and tablets: 4.0 or later

6. Bandwidth recommendation: 2 Mbps upload, 2 Mbps download 

7. Firewall and cookies requirements for using Newrow platform for Live Coaching sessions:

  • Please ensure that the location you are connecting from allows for the streaming and downloading of real-time video.

  • Cookies must be enabled in order to use the Newrow Smart web platform. Extensions or browser configurations that block or disable cookies may prevent participants from joining a live session.


To successfully access a Certificate Test:

  • Disable “Block pop-up” in your browser settings.
  • Do not use an Incognito (Private) window on Firefox, Edge, and iOS Safari browsers, as they enable the pop-up blocker by default. This will result in an error that will not allow the pop-up that’s needed to open the test. 

Supported browsers

Minimum versions

We encourage users to have the latest versions of their browsers for a smooth experience. Below are minimum versions that support microphones and other essential features, like speech recognition.

Update your browser if you encounter errors. When using a mobile device, make sure your connection is stable and high speed.



Important note: the minimum iOS version depends on the device used (refer to the chart below):

 

  • For iPhone devices 5s and 6/ 6Plus – minimum iOS version is 12.4
  • For iPhone devices 6s / 6s Plus or newer – minimum iOS version is 13.4.1



Recommendations for internet speed required for speech recognition activities

To make sure speech recognition activities are performing at optimal quality and your experience is

 smooth, please follow the below recommendations:

  1. Ensure your reception on mobile devices is good and stable
  2. Switch to Wi-Fi if you are using mobile data.
  3. Check your internet upload speed and make sure it is more than 512kbps. You can conduct an internet speed test by going to the website of your choice, for example fast.com. The below screenshots show you how this works.

We support devices with iOS 12, 13, and later

iOS 11 and older are not supported. A list of supported devices can be found at https://iosref.com/ios/ (Max iOS column = 12, 13, or later).

 

To check your iOS version, go to Home -> Settings -> General -> About. The version is visible in the area labeled “Software Version”.



We support the Safari browser launched from the home screen only. Chrome, Firefox, and other browsers are not supported. Adding a webpage to a home screen is not supported. Using browsers integrated into Facebook, Twitter, etc. is not supported.

The microphone permissions for Safari must be allowed.

 

iOS 13

To enable microphone permissions, go to Home -> Settings -> Safari -> Microphone -> Set to “Ask” or “Allow”. 

If “Deny” is selected, the application will not work.



In iOS 13 or later, it is possible to prevent the website from asking for microphone permissions. 

Go to the Flex website, then tap on the “aA” icon in the address bar. Click/Tap on Website Settings ->

 Allow -> Done



iOS 12

Go to Home -> Settings -> Safari. Make sure “Microphone and Camera access” is turned ON.



If you don’t hear sound for videos

Make sure the device is not on silent mode and adjust the volume so that you can hear the sound.

If you experience glitches

Restart Safari by double-pressing the home button, swapping Safari to the top of your apps, and restarting Safari from the home screen.
